Harmonise further training processes, relieve the IT department

As one of the leading manufacturers of grinding and dressing tools, Tyrolit has been consistently investing in research and development for more than a hundred years. Accordingly, the acquisition and sharing of knowledge are important success factors, and the promotion of training and further education is a top priority in the company. To create the necessary framework conditions for this and to enable classroom training and eLearning for all Tyrolit employees worldwide, Tyrolit has introduced SAP SuccessFactors Learning together with tts. With this new solution, the Austrian high-tech company has killed two birds with one stone: on the one hand, it has succeeded in harmonising training processes across the company. On the other hand, the cloud solution relieves the IT department of operational workload.

Trust as a vital element

The decision to roll out a new piece of software can’t be made overnight – it takes due consideration. tts presented the SAP SuccessFactors Learning module to Tyrolit at the end of November 2019. Over the months that followed, Tyrolit became convinced of the new platform’s advantages compared to the existing one, and ultimately decided to establish the solution in the company at the end of 2020. Since the timeframe for the roll-out was tight, Tyrolit didn’t want to take any risks and brought in tts for the QuickStart implementation of the solution. There was a trusting relationship from the outset, because the tts consultants and Tyrolit’s management team always worked together on an equal footing. All the same, there was still room for a bit of fun in their professional collaboration.

The perfect framework

Thanks to the preconfigured processes and strict planning, the project team was able to handle the roll-out between November 2020 and the end of the year, and ensure the technical go-live. Alongside the technical framework provided by QuickStart, it was the experience tts has with cloud solutions and projects that run completely in remote mode, the outstanding collaboration and the great commitment on the part of the Tyrolit team that proved to be the key pieces of the puzzle when it came to the success of the project.

Knowledge transfer at full speed

The fact that time was short and in-person meetings were not possible made close specialist interaction particularly important. Regular web sessions and daily one-to-one consultations took care of this. The collaboration tool Miro was especially helpful for coordination and sharing ideas. The two-day key-user training was vital for the rapid knowledge transfer. This served as a preparatory phase for complete familiarization with the new LMS, where the Tyrolit key users worked through the previously created User Experience Guides. The training designed specifically for use in remote mode made a particularly intensive interaction possible. It gave the users more confidence and significantly increased their willingness to learn, meaning the team was ultimately finished not on time, but actually ahead of the project plan.

Practice makes perfect

The successful technical go-live is being followed by a pilot phase, during which the 400 selected employees will work with the solution, testing it out, before it is rolled out across the company in the course of the year, gradually replacing the on-premise solutions SAP LSO and Moodle that have been used up till now.

A follow-up date to share experiences has been arranged. During the project and pilot phases, these experiences have been more than positive, as can be seen in this quote from one of the project participants: “There’s only one thing I’m sad about in relation to the Tyrolit QS project – it’s over!”
