SWM: Consistent documentation and courseware with tt knowlege force
How training documents could be created and edited quickly and easily at Stadtwerke München (SWM), making them available to lots of users without the deployment of a learning platform.
Stadtwerke München (SWM) is the municipal utilities company that provides services to Bavaria’s state capital, Munich, and the surrounding region. For decades, SWM has stood for the safe and responsible, resource-conscious provision of energy (electricity, natural gas, district heating) and fresh drinking water, which is directly sourced from Bavaria’s alpine foothills.
Alongside the upstream production of energy and water, SWM is also responsible for network management, distribution and sales. Its subsidiary, MVG, is the central pillar in Munich’s public transport system, being responsible for the U-Bahn subway network, buses and trams. On top of this, SWM manages 18 indoor and outdoor swimming pools, which are among the most modern in Germany.
The particular challenge in this project lay in the large number of authors and the number of documents that SWM needed to produce. As of today, some 200 authors have produced 2,300 documents. Integration within SWM’s existing IT environment, document alignment and design guidelines were key customer requirements, as was the development of an approach to user privileges.
“The collaboration with tts GmbH was very good. We were looked after very professionally, the implementation went according to plan, any mistakes were taken care of immediately and tts provided comprehensive counsel.”
Linda Kolb, Consultant for apprenticeships, further and advanced education at Stadtwerke München
The main task for tts was to provide comprehensive consultancy and training to the internal trainers and administrators, who have since acted as multipliers and qualified 200 active authors. tts implemented tt knowledge force and Web Publisher for the creation, management and publication of the required documents. In the process, tts created templates that allowed the generation of documents according to SWM’s corporate guidelines.
Following a software installation tailored to the needs of the customer, and the migration of the existing systems to tt knowledge force, SWM started training the core authoring team. This team took charge of training around 200 authors, who are responsible for creating and recording various types of documents. All of them welcomed tt knowledge force, as was reflected in positive feedback, because it simplified document creation and management.
SWM created all SAP and other data processing courseware, system documentation, user instructions and e-learning with tt knowledge force, without any need to develop a separate learning platform. Using tt knowledge force, SWM made the documents available on the intranet in different formats and the users could then access these with the help of Web Publisher.
The courseware and documentation now have a consistent look and feel, reflecting SWM’s corporate identity. Thanks to tt knowledge force, these have been created and edited quickly and easily by SWM’s own in-house authors.
