From Local HR Structures to a Global SAP SuccessFactors Suite
Aligning HR globally while preserving local strengths
Komax is a globally active technology company in the automation sector, delivering innovative and high-quality solutions for the wire processing industry. With around 60 subsidiaries and more than 3,000 employees worldwide, lean and efficient processes are essential to daily operations. This applies not only to customer solutions, but also to internal systems.
However, despite being a highly technology-driven organisation, HR processes had not yet evolved at the same pace. In many countries, HR teams were still working with outdated, locally maintained tools. Over time, a fragmented system landscape emerged, shaped by spreadsheets, documents and individual country solutions.
While these setups worked locally, they led to inefficiencies in administration and reporting at group level. Consolidated insights required manual effort, transparency was limited and strategic planning across regions became increasingly difficult. This created a clear need for change. The organisation was ready for a more unified, transparent and future-ready HR system.
An end-to-end HR transformation with a clear focus on sustainability
Together with the tts digital HR experts, Komax decided to implement SAP SuccessFactors as its global HR suite. As SAP was already established in other areas of the business, this decision was a natural next step. From the outset, the focus was on an end-to-end transformation rather than isolated module implementations.
The project started with Employee Central as the core HR system. Employee Central provides a consistent data foundation, supports key HR processes and connects all other SuccessFactors modules. Based on this foundation, Recruiting, Performance & Goals and Compensation were implemented. Succession & Development is currently being rolled out, with additional modules already on the roadmap.
Throughout the project, the tts digital HR experts combined technical expertise with a strong understanding of HR processes, governance and long-term usability. Best practices were introduced transparently and adapted collaboratively to Komax’s specific needs.
Customer Succes Story: Komax AG
A clear vision from the very beginning
During the partner selection phase, the tts digital HR experts stood out by clearly demonstrating how best-practice HR processes would look in the target system. This gave Komax confidence that the project would go beyond technical configuration and truly support HR as a strategic function.
Employee Central as a stable foundation
Starting with Employee Central was a deliberate decision. As the most interconnected module, it ensures consistent master data, clean integrations and standardised processes. This foundation enabled a structured rollout of further modules and reduced complexity in later phases.
Actively involving global stakeholders
With more than 100 HR stakeholders worldwide, involvement and communication were critical. Together with the tts digital HR experts, Komax conducted workshops with representatives from all major regions. Local requirements were discussed openly, best practices were presented and jointly evaluated. The willingness to move away from manual, locally built solutions was clearly noticeable.
Managing complexity pragmatically
One of the major challenges was implementing the system in 17 different languages. All content had to be translated and reviewed by local experts. From the beginning, it was clear that not everything needed to be perfect immediately. Instead, the project followed an iterative approach, correcting and refining content step by step.
Flexible training under changing conditions
Planned on-site trainings had to be converted into remote sessions at short notice. The tts digital HR experts adapted the training concepts quickly without compromising quality. Even under these conditions, user acceptance remained high.
To be honest, it was almost boring — everything ran so smoothly! I have never worked with a partner where a project was this transparent and well-structured, while still being enjoyable. tts consistently focused on long-term solutions and delivered exactly what was promised.
Collaboration built on trust
Across all phases, the project was characterised by openness, mutual respect and a positive team spirit. A moderated “safe space” allowed participants to raise concerns and questions early. The focus was always on solutions rather than blame, which contributed significantly to the calm and steady project progress.
Over the next 6 to 12 months, Komax will continue expanding its SAP SuccessFactors landscape, including Succession & Development and, in the future, Onboarding and Learning. At the same time, the focus will shift towards strengthening data literacy within HR to translate insights into concrete actions. The foundation for this next phase is firmly in place.
